On May 26, 2023, the Sofia Development Association hosted the first of the planned LEAD Online talks on hate speech online. We had the opportunity to discuss the main objectives of the project with experts on the topic of anti-racism and discrimination, in the context of the need to adopt national plans against racism. During the discussion, the main focus was the need for increased attention against the growing spread of hate speech in the country and in Europe, and for adequate actions and cooperation between all institutions – both in the field of education and in the field of prosecution – against crimes with discriminatory motives.

The approach of the project – which includes interactive trainings and an online game, HateOut! – is important for reaching a large group of young people, giving them the opportunity to combine their personal experiences with arguments and knowledge that draws attention to human rights and the protection of vulnerable groups in society from hostile messages and incitement to violence.

The project is funded by the EU's Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values programme.
